Timothy (Tim) Wennes joined Santander in September 2019 as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Country Head of Santander US, and President and CEO of Santander Bank, N.A. (SBNA). Wennes is responsible for leading Santander’s diversified portfolio of businesses in the U.S. market, including auto lending, commercial real estate and banking, investment banking and capital markets, retail and digital banking and wealth management. Wennes serves on the Boards of Directors of Santander Holdings USA, Inc., SBNA, Santander Consumer USA Holdings Inc., Banco Santander International, and Santander US Capital Markets LLC (SanCap).
Over his tenure, Wennes has led significant growth across the Santander US businesses with the successful rollout of the Openbank digital banking platform, a joint venture with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to service a $9 billion multifamily commercial real estate portfolio, and the privatization of the Sander Consumer USA Inc. auto lending business. He has also successfully partnered with Santander’s global businesses to help expand their presence, integrating Amherst Pierpont Securities (now SanCap) into Santander Corporate & Investment Banking and extending the award-winning Wealth Management franchise in the U.S. market.
With more than 35 years of banking experience, Wennes has a track-record of successfully leading companies through market cycles and transformation. Prior to joining Santander US, he held multiple leadership positions at Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. (MUFG) Union Bank from 2008 to 2019, Countrywide Bank from 2003 to 2008, and Wells Fargo from 1989-2003.
Wennes also has a passion for the power of financial education and has supported the nonprofit Operation HOPE for more than a decade in various Board positions, currently serving on its Governing Board of Directors.
Wennes earned a B.S. in Entrepreneurial Studies from the University of Southern California and an M.B.A. in International Business from California State University at Fullerton.
